POSITION SUMMARY

The role is designed to address urgent fire and medical situations, ensuring the safety of individuals and property. This position primarily focuses on providing Advanced Life Support during medical emergencies while offering Paramedic assistance during fire-related incidents. The responsibilities are tailored to the specific circumstances encountered, with duties defined by the Fire Chief.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to emergency situations including fire suppression, medical aid, hazardous materials incidents, and rescue operations; act promptly based on dispatcher information.
  • Maintain readiness for emergency responses; oversee the inventory of equipment and supplies in fire vehicles and stations; conduct regular tests on hoses and pumps; prepare apparatus for future emergencies.
  • Ensure the protection of life and property; engage in fire control and extinguishment; perform rescues and assist individuals in perilous situations; manage ventilation and salvage operations effectively.
  • Operate various emergency vehicles and apparatus; determine optimal routes to emergency sites; navigate safely under diverse conditions including adverse weather and heavy traffic.
  • Identify water sources for firefighting; manage fire hoses and nozzles; operate pumps and direct water streams onto fires.
  • Execute Paramedic duties; deliver advanced medical care to patients, including BLS, ALS, and trauma management; stabilize patients at incident scenes and communicate with medical facilities for further treatment.
  • Conduct inspections for fire hazards and compliance with safety regulations; assess building stability.
  • Collaborate with other public service agencies; assist law enforcement with traffic management and engage in community service activities.
  • Utilize a range of emergency and medical equipment; ensure the operational readiness of tools and supplies.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and monitor the work environment to safeguard all personnel.
  • Oversee inventory levels of departmental supplies; initiate orders for necessary materials.
  • Perform maintenance tasks to ensure the functionality of vehicles and equipment; report any issues requiring attention.
  • Complete various documentation including reports, logs, and records related to incidents and maintenance.
  • Engage in effective communication with team members, dispatchers, and the public; provide information on fire safety and prevention.
  • Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and advancements in the field; participate in ongoing training and education.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and functionality of the fire station and related facilities.
  • Assist colleagues and other departments as needed.
  • Carry out additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

A High School Diploma is required, along with vocational training in emergency medical care. Candidates must meet the qualifications for Paramedic certification and have experience in advanced emergency medical care.

Special Requirements:

Must hold valid certifications as a Firefighter and Paramedic. Continuous education is essential to maintain certifications.
