We currently have an opening for a Director of Medical Affairs, Americas. This role entails overseeing the daily operations and providing strategic direction for the Medical Sciences Liaison (MSL) team, while also serving as a representative for Medical Affairs both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct reporting to the Senior Director of Global Medical & Scientific Affairs (GMSA) at Abbott Point of Care.
  • Contributing to the global Medical & Scientific Affairs strategy in collaboration with Directors of EMEA and APAC Medical Affairs.
  • Managing personnel and projects: Ensuring MSL team members consistently update and maintain all necessary databases with accurate and comprehensive information, including proper documentation of customer interactions and responses to medical inquiries.
  • Overseeing Medical Affairs activities within the allocated budget, effectively distributing resources to support Abbott and APOC's key business initiatives.
  • Facilitating cross-functional integration of the MSL team at the field level to optimize the execution of strategic objectives.
  • Engaging in cross-functional collaboration with Clinical Affairs, R&D, Regulatory, Quality, OEC, Legal, Global Marketing, and Commercial teams.
  • Providing support to the Senior Director of GMSA, including representing Medical Affairs and the organization at professional medical congresses and stakeholder groups as required.
  • Assisting Marketing and Commercial teams with medical and clinical details related to the APOC portfolio and spearheading initiatives to promote medical education.
  • Developing up-to-date clinical and medical content necessary for internal or external educational purposes regarding products in the portfolio.
  • Organizing and moderating periodic Medical Advisory Boards in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Managing the budget associated with the role, including the approval of MSL team expense reports.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A medical degree (MD or DO) is essential. A Ph.D. would be advantageous.
  • Specialization in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Critical Care is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience, combining residency, direct patient care (3 years post-residency), and industry experience (5 years).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to interpret clinical data and scientific information to effectively present to healthcare professionals and customers.
