Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Professional Development Generalist to join our team at Houston Methodist. This role is responsible for delivering educational programs and activities, assessing educational needs, and developing and evaluating educational activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs to meet the identified needs of staff, patients, and families.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to promote positive communication techniques and problem resolution.
  • Function as a liaison with different departments to ensure the distribution of educational services for staff growth, preparedness, and competency.
  • Promote professional practice by supporting and mentoring the transition-to-practice of inter-professional clinicians.
  • Participate in the assessment of educational needs across units and departments.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for complex and/or highly specialized patient care situations.
  • Provide effective hospital education, training, and delivery to achieve performance outcomes for leading best practice and safe patient care.
  • Complete, coordinate, maintain, and submit program records and reports in a timely fashion.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities to support department/entity goals.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice, instructional technology, and adult learning theory into educational offerings.
  • Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks to meet the needs of clinical areas and department.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Four years of clinical experience.
  • Education experience preferred.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure within 60 days.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA).
  • Magnet - ANCC Recognized Certification - in an applicable specialty area within 6 months.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA).
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (AHA).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Ability to build evidence-based practice into the clinical setting.
  • Demonstrates ability to plan, organize, and follow through on assignments and/or projects.
  • Exhibits leadership abilities including collaborative, consultative, and coaching skills.
  • Ability to utilize adult learning theory; knowledge of current educational technologies.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
