POSITION SUMMARY

The Regional Canine Trainer is tasked with supervising Handlers to ensure that cargo screenings adhere to TSA regulations and standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and instruct assigned Handlers and canines in operational search techniques and training methodologies.
  • Conduct canine training sessions, audits, and fulfill administrative requirements for designated Canine Teams.
  • Organize and facilitate recurring training sessions for recertifications and remedial, sustainment, and advancement training.
  • Assume temporary certified Handler responsibilities as needed for the program.
  • Engage in CCSP-related training to effectively search cargo and detect explosive threats.
  • Perform temporary Handler duties while managing a trained explosive detection canine as required.
  • Maintain accurate training records and ensure the care and upkeep of the assigned certified canine, which must reside within the employee's home. The living conditions must be suitable, indoor, and climate-controlled for the canine, subject to regular inspections.
  • Develop and adhere to established training protocols in line with standard operating procedures and statements of work.
  • Coordinate operational exercises to simulate real-life scenarios, enabling canines to operate independently in high-traffic environments.
  • Safeguard, transport, and account for canine training aids, equipment, company vehicles, and other resources.
  • Assist in the training of new Handlers and Trainers as necessary.
  • Maintain all job-related certifications and required security clearances.
  • Be prepared to operate a company vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel up to 70% to various contract locations nationwide.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in training canines and teams for explosive detection.
  • At least three years of documented experience handling an explosive detection dog in an operational setting.
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a Known Traveler Number (KTN) within a specified timeframe after employment.
  • Must possess adequate transportation to safely transport the assigned canine and crate to and from work locations, with operational climate control.
  • Ability to pass the necessary Contract Testing and Certifications within a designated timeframe after employment; ongoing maintenance of certification requirements is essential.
  • Proven experience in addressing unique training challenges with detection dogs and teams, along with knowledge of canine training principles and standards.
  • A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record for the past three years are required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capability to manage time and multiple priorities effectively.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Physical capability to lift, lower, carry, push, or move objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Tasks may involve intermittent standing or prolonged sitting, as well as the ability to walk, reach, kneel, crouch, and handle work-related supplies and tools.
  • Additional physical requirements may be detailed in the Company's Performance Work Statement or Contract.

WORKING CONDITIONS
