Job Summary

The Accounting Manager will oversee the planning, direction, and administration of general accounting and fiscal services to ensure consistency and compliance with district policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This position will perform advanced professional and technical accounting work related to fiscal services and internal controls in the management of accounting, finance, and budgeting functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, assign, supervise, review, and evaluate the work related to the General Accounting department, including District Office fiscal and cashier, and district-wide third-party billing/payments.
  • Maintain the fiscal integrity and accuracy of the Financial Management System (FMS), general ledger, centralized allocation entries, and ensure all processes are in accordance with GAAP, applicable standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Investigate, research, and answer concerns or questions from the colleges, other district office divisions, or third-party billing customers.
  • Review and post complex journal entries, including interfaces from Maricopa's payroll system (HCM), student information system (SIS), and budget system.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in finance, accounting, auditing, or a directly related field.
  • Five (5) full-time equivalent years of experience with the application of GAAP theory and practice, tax laws as they apply to accounting transactions and reporting, exposure to governmental accounting, and use of computerized accounting systems.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Accounting or Business Administration or a related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of General Ledger, Fiscal services, and Third-Party billing/payments experience.
  • Four (4) or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in a higher education or government environment.
  • One (1) or more years of experience with PeopleSoft-Financial Management (FMS), Human Capital Management (HCM), and Student Information Systems (SIS) or equivalent systems.
