This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of participants during recreational, fitness, and instructional swimming activities at the YMCA of the Suncoast's Greater Ridgecrest Branch.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct supervision and maintain high safety standards during swimming activities.
- Role model all aspects of the YMCA's SMART pledge and create a nurturing and safe environment.
- Report suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or violate the code of conduct.
- Maintain cleanliness of the deck and locker rooms, and keep the deck clear of equipment.
- Follow opening and closing procedures, engage in positive public relations with members, and know all emergency procedures.
- Administer first aid and report all serious incidents.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings, and serve as a role model in pool safety.
- Must be at least 16 years old and hold a current lifeguard certification (Red Cross accepted).
- Must possess effective communication and human relations skills, and be able to lift 50 pounds and physically perform a rescue.
- Must pass a swim and skills test annually, and have the ability to relate to children and adults from all social/economic segments of the community.
- Certified Pool Operator, Life Guard Trainer, and Get SMART certifications.
- Broad overview of the YMCA as it operates as a local, national, and international movement.
