Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Equipment Technician I to join our team at Trinity Health. As a Biomedical Equipment Technician I, you will be responsible for providing planned maintenance, safety testing, repairs, calibration, installation, routine and emergency service to general diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform planned maintenance procedures on multiple types of general and specialized clinical equipment.
  • Perform corrective maintenance procedures, including diagnosing problems using thermodynamic, electronic/electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or other related sciences.
  • Notify equipment users and Clinical Engineering Management of repair status and delays as necessary.
  • Interact with clinical staff to understand and resolve operational problems in scheduling and completing PM procedures.
  • Determine need for replacement parts and supplies, select the most cost-effective source, and submit properly completed parts request.
  • Complete corrective and planned maintenance work order documentation.
  • Promote teamwork by keeping others informed, participating effectively in group decision making, and working to accomplish team objectives and projects.
  • Continually improve processes by seeking ways to eliminate and reduce waste.
  • Have authority to order parts and supplies required for emergency service or repair of medical equipment.
  • Recommend test equipment and spare equipment parts to the CE Manager or Lead Technician.
  • Provide on-call service coverage after normal business hours on a rotating basis, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested by CE Manager.
Requirements
  • Associates of Applied Sciences degree in medical electronics, electronic technology, or related field, including comparable military training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to two years of experience performing corrective and planned maintenance on medical equipment per policy.
  • Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Working knowledge and ability to use basic hand tools and test equipment specific to the field.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, EOC, FDA, and other specific regulations and standards pertaining to clinical equipment service and repair.
  • Personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring, with ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
  • Basic understanding of personal computer operation, applications, and ability to input data using keyboard.
  • Ability to operate complex test equipment, analyze and interpret information provided by equipment and clinical staff to determine equipment operational condition.
  • Strong customer service and communications skills to interact with hospital personnel and vendors to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Ability to provide or coordinate in-service training to clinical/professional staff on medical device basic operational and safety functions.
Working Conditions

The Biomedical Equipment Technician I will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to hazardous materials, electrical and mechanical equipment, and other potential hazards. The ability to work in a team environment, with strong communication and problem-solving skills, is essential for success in this role.
