Overview:
We are a vibrant, privately-held organization looking for a skilled Financial Controller to enhance our financial operations. The Financial Controller will play a crucial role in managing financial activities, which include corporate accounting, compliance and financial reporting, budget preparation, and the establishment of internal controls. This position also encompasses financial risk management and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Key Responsibilities:
- Management of Accounting Operations: Supervise all accounting functions, including billing, accounts receivable (A/R), accounts payable (A/P), general ledger (GL), cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
- Budgeting and Financial Forecasting: Lead the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, addressing variances as necessary.
- Financial Reporting: Generate and disseminate timely monthly financial statements, ensuring adherence to regulatory reporting standards.
- Technical Accounting: Investigate technical accounting matters to guarantee compliance with applicable standards.
- Closing Processes: Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring precision and punctuality.
- Quality Assurance: Uphold quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
- Regulatory Reporting and Tax Compliance: Oversee and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting obligations and tax submissions.
- Internal Control Development: Create and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
- Additional Responsibilities: Execute other controller-related tasks as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience: Demonstrated experience as a Financial Controller, preferably in the Real Estate sector; experience in the restaurant industry is advantageous.
- Accounting and Finance Background: At least 3+ years of combined experience in accounting and finance.
- Educational Background: Advanced degree in accounting is mandatory; CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
- Financial Reporting Expertise: Strong knowledge of financial reporting under US GAAP.
- Accounting Proficiency: Extensive understanding of accounting principles and procedures, including financial statements and general ledger management.
- Software Proficiency: Skilled in accounting software; experience with Yardi Software is essential; familiarity with Great Plains software is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in financial management systems and effective management of month-end/year-end closing processes.
- IT Competence: Basic IT knowledge is necessary.
- Willingness to Travel: Openness to domestic and international travel as required.
- Fieldwork and Site Visits: Willingness to conduct fieldwork and site visits as necessary.
- Flexibility: Must possess a flexible schedule and be prepared to work extended hours/weekends as required.
Location Requirement:
Candidates must be located within Orange County or a 20-25 mile radius of La Palma and Newport Coast Drive.
