Job Summary

The Mohs Tech/Histology Technician is a vital member of our team at US Derm Support Roles. This role is responsible for accessioning, embedding, and staining slides for microscopic examination. The successful candidate will prioritize testing procedures, complete them accurately and timely, and maintain proper records in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Adhere to laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument, and procedural calibration and maintenance performed.
Follow the laboratory's established correction action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
Prepares tissue sections for examination by using complex techniques and procedures such as embedding, precise positioning, and cutting minute pieces of frozen tissue.
Cuts and stains frozen section for rapid diagnosis during surgery.
Operates and maintains cryostat machine.
Prepares slides for filing and organizes slide storage.
Monitors and stocks supplies.
Maintain, clean, and repair equipment and instruments as per established procedures and manufacturer's instruction.
Adherence to compliance and completion of compliance training.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate's Degree in a science related field is required; Bachelor's Degree in a science related field is preferred.
Previous experience in a lab environment is preferred.
HT/HTL ASCP certification or completion of a Histology Technician training course is preferred.
Previous experience as a Mohs Technician is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must be flexible with hours to meet work flow demands.
Knowledge of general medical terminology is preferred.
Ability to type a minimum of 45 wpm with minimal errors is preferred.
Must possess attention to detail.
Must possess excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills.
Must display a friendly, cheerful, tactful and polite demeanor and must be compassionate and caring in dealing with others.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
Ability to use time productively and contribute to high levels of company operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Ability to understand physician's instructions/handwriting and know when to seek additional information or clarification.
Ability to respond positively to constructive criticism and direction from supervisors.
Must demonstrate professional appearance and manner at all times.
Must remain compliant with HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA requirements.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Physical Demands

Ability to communicate in an active multi-office environment.
Ability to efficiently operate all job related office equipment (telephone, computer, calculator, fax, copier).
Ability to communicate via telephone.
Ability to sit/stand for large portions of a workday.
Ability to differentiate between all colors.
