Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Histology Technician - Surgical Pathology to join our team at UW Health University Hospital. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will play a critical role in preparing tissue samples for examination under the microscope, ensuring accurate diagnoses and contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare tissue samples for examination by grossing/dissecting biopsy specimens, embedding tissue in paraffin wax, performing microtomy, and completing various staining techniques of tissue on glass slides.
  • Perform basic instrument maintenance, monitor reagents, and maintain supply inventory to ensure timely testing.
  • Coordinate and prioritize workflow to ensure efficient testing and accurate results.
  • Interact daily with pathologists, residents, and other laboratory staff to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • One year of previous laboratory experience required.
  • Prior traveler experience highly preferred.
  • Associate degree in laboratory or medical laboratory technology (education verification required).
  • Needs 2 completed references from recent work environment/assignments (supervisor or manager only for work performed in the last two years).
Work Environment

Travelers are the first to float to floors working with children up to 1 year of age and/or based on the traveler's competency skills/experience. The Traveler may have shifts scheduled in multiple units, depending on the current staffing needs and/or different locations within the organization.
