Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at UW Health University Hospital. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by preparing tissue samples for examination under the microscope.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tissue Sample Preparation: Prepare tissue samples for examination under the microscope by grossing/dissecting biopsy specimens, embedding tissue in paraffin wax, performing microtomy, and completing various staining techniques of tissue on glass slides.
  • Instrument Maintenance: Perform basic instrument maintenance, including temperature monitoring and reagent inventory management, to ensure optimal laboratory performance.
  • Supply Management: Manage laboratory supplies, including inventory and quality control, to ensure timely testing and minimize delays.
  • Workflow Coordination: Coordinate and prioritize workflow to ensure timely testing and meet laboratory productivity standards.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Interact daily with pathologists, residents, and other laboratory staff to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Education: Associate degree in laboratory or medical laboratory technology (education verification required).
  • Experience: One year of previous laboratory experience required; prior traveler experience highly preferred.
  • References: Two completed references from recent work environment/assignments (supervisor or manager only for work performed in the last two years).
Work Environment

As a traveler, you will have the opportunity to work in various units within the hospital, including those that care for children up to 1 year of age. You may also have shifts scheduled in multiple units, depending on the current staffing needs and/or different locations within the organization.
