Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Certified Firefighter to join our team at the City of Hobbs, NM. As a key member of our fire department, you will be responsible for protecting life and property by performing firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical care duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform firefighting and rescue activities, including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps, and laying hose.
  • Administer emergency care and provide assistance as required.
  • Utilize skills, procedures, and medications within the scope of practice as a certified EMT.
  • Participate in fire drills, attend classes in firefighting, emergency medical, and related subjects.
  • Operate radio and other communication equipment.
  • Maintain fire and EMS equipment, apparatus, and facilities.
  • Perform general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment.
  • Assist in developing plans for special assignments, such as emergency preparedness and training programs.
  • Present programs to the community on safety, medical, and fire prevention topics.
Requirements
  • Must hold a High School diploma or GED at date of hire.
  • Prefer thirty six (36) college credit hours or two (2) years general verifiable and proven paid work experience.
  • Must be certified NREMT, NM State EMT, or Firefighter I & II IFSAC.
  • Must be of good moral character.
  • Must not have been convicted of or pled guilty to any felony charge or, within the three-year period immediately preceding their application, to any violation of any federal or state law or local ordinance relating to aggravated assault, theft, driving while intoxicated, controlled substances or other crime involving moral turpitude.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 120 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
