ARKA Group Optical Engineering Department Overview:

The Optical Engineering division at ARKA Group is dedicated to the design, analysis, production, metrology, optical alignment, and testing of airborne and space-based optical systems, subsystems, and components. We are seeking a seasoned professional with significant experience in optics and/or aerospace industries. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work autonomously while fostering collaboration across various engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulating integration and testing strategies for optical components and systems
  • Creating error budgets for the manufacturing of optical components and the assembly/alignment of optical systems
  • Preparing and presenting materials for System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, and Critical Design Review
  • Assisting in optical fabrication/testing and system alignment in a controlled clean room environment
  • Evaluating the optical performance of components or systems (WFE, MTF, throughput, etc.)
  • Documenting test plans and procedures to facilitate peer review and cross-disciplinary information transfer
  • Navigating a dynamic environment with evolving requirements and constraints to guide teams towards optimal solutions
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in optical engineering, physics, engineering, or a related discipline
    • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience or Master's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in optical design development and analysis using Code V, Zemax, FRED, or similar software
  • Familiarity with optical testing equipment such as interferometers (4D, Zygo), Laser Trackers, theodolites, and related software (4SightFocus, MetroPro/Mx, Spatial Analyzer)
  • Proficient in programming languages for data processing and analysis (Matlab, Python, Mathcad, Mathematica)
  • Understanding of aerospace integration and testing protocols, assembly, and testing methodologies
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders, including management, professional staff, customers, and government representatives

Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional office setting. The employee will frequently use hands for keyboarding, communicate, listen, and interpret instructions while remaining stationary. The role may require moving around the facility and occasionally lifting items weighing up to 25 lbs.
