Job Summary

Abbott Laboratories is seeking a highly skilled Production Maintenance Manager to join our team. As a key member of our production and maintenance team, you will be responsible for managing the maintenance department, coordinating support and resources, and appraising the performance of direct reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the 24x7 maintenance department to ensure day-to-day maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with company standards.
  • Coordinate support and resources for production and non-production work activities.
  • Appraise the performance of direct reports, including annual performance reviews.
  • Lead routine, periodic, and special inspections to determine repairs needed or corrective actions taken to prevent breakdowns, unsafe conditions, or to comply with Company and/or Agency Rules and Regulations.
  • Improve Production Equipment change-over as dictated by schedule or requested by shift supervisor.
  • Interpret blueprints, equipment manuals, layouts, and wiring diagrams.
  • Support the effort of preparing documentation regarding Preventive Maintenance and Machine Operation through effective communication and collaboration with Engineering.
  • Set up and operate all equipment needed to perform assigned tasks.
  • Escort and assist outside repair persons in the performance of their contractual obligations.
  • Escort Agency testing technicians to assure timely completion of their tasks as it relates to production equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate records, keep inventory of, and order spare parts and shop materials to effect proper repairs on all equipment.
  • Provide floor presence on all 4 shifts to ensure proper response to manufacturing issues.
  • Function as a key member of both the production and maintenance team and assist as necessary to accomplish production goals and through-put initiatives.
  • Responsible for implementing any safety improvements required by the engineering team.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly manage employees in Production Maintenance.
  • Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 5+ years' experience in maintenance management.
  • Hands-on electro-mechanical repair, rebuild, field service experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of supervisory/management experience.
  • 5+ years of diverse experience in high volume production setting.
  • Prior experience working in a company operating under ISO, FDA, or similar quality systems or regulations.
Competencies
  • Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
  • Familiarity with formal preventative maintenance program.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and coach employee performance.
  • Knowledgeable in pneumatic and electromechanical equipment design methodologies and fundamental operations.
  • Ability to quickly grasp new ideas and techniques.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and asset management including spare part list development, preventative maintenance, and appropriate SOP's pertaining to asset acquisition, validation, calibration, and retirement.
