About the Role

Washington Trust Bank is seeking an experienced Mortgage Loan Officer to join our External Loan Officer team. As a key member of our Home Loan Division, you will be responsible for sourcing your own business through professional relationships, realtor referrals, repeat clients, and other compliant means.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and develop relationships with real estate agents to refer potential mortgage customers to WTB.
  • Complete loan applications with customers and act as a liaison between customers and the Home Loan Division.
  • Represent WTB to real estate companies and potential mortgage customers.
  • Pre-qualify self-employed borrowers, prepare cash flow work sheets, and analyze financial records and tax returns.
  • Maintain responsibility for the loan file from application through closing.
  • Balance time between the office and in the community to promote yourself and the Bank, and ensure timely customer communication.
  • Maintain a regular calling schedule with offices and real estate agents to keep them up to date on WTB loan programs.
  • Establish good working relationships with the Home Loan Division support staff.
  • Cross-sell WTB products and services to loan customers.
  • Meet negotiated production goals.
  • Report regularly to the department manager or center manager, or as requested.
  • Perform compliance and risk management duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
  • Collection of applicable fees from borrowers.
  • Knowledge of real estate and mortgage banking industry.
  • Knowledge of Truth-in-Lending and compliance with government regulations.
  • Knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA, and construction loan policies and procedures.
  • Required to have or obtain a Mortgage Loan Originator registration number through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS).
  • Ability to work independently and perform problem-solving and decision-making under minimal supervision.
  • Strong detail orientation with a high level of organizational skills and ability to multi-task, managing interruptions with multiple projects.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and handle multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of service to clients in a deadline-driven environment under the direction of management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with and work effectively with diverse groups of people, managing conflict and negotiating for results when needed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical people.
  • Proficient PC and technical skills to navigate Bank software, including the Microsoft Office Suite of products and related applications.
  • Ability to work additional hours as required by operational and production workloads.
Compensation and Benefits

The compensation package includes a base hourly rate of $35.00 per hour, in addition to monthly gross commissions. The target starting wage is $25.00 per hour as a non-recoverable draw against monthly commissions. You will become a participant in the MLO incentive plan immediately upon starting your employment with us.
