Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Maintenance Supervisor to join our team at the State of Connecticut. As a key member of our facilities operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of our buildings and grounds, ensuring that our facilities are safe, efficient, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule, assign, and oversee the work of maintenance staff
  • Determine priorities and plan building and grounds maintenance work
  • Establish and maintain building maintenance procedures
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide training and assistance to staff
  • Develop and implement policies and standards for building maintenance
  • Act as liaison with other operating units, agencies, and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures
  • Prepare reports and correspondence
  • Inspect buildings and equipment to determine repair and improvement needs
  • Receive repair requests, make estimates of time and materials, and prioritize according to need
  • Maintain inventories of tools, equipment, supplies, and order or requisition when needed
Requirements
  • 6 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of large buildings
  • 2 years of experience in a supervisory capacity
  • College training in architecture, mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related field may be substituted for experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating building systems, including heating, cooling, and lighting
  • Experience with lawn maintenance and snow removal on a large scale
  • Experience troubleshooting repairs at large facilities
  • Experience with the State of Connecticut procurement process
  • Experience utilizing computer work order systems
  • Experience conducting safety inspections and building condition assessments
Working Conditions

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some risk of injury from equipment. The appointing authority may require completion of an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
