Position Overview:
The Charter Oak's Culinary Farm is dedicated to cultivating distinctive, seasonally appropriate crops through organic and sustainable practices across 3.5 acres. Our focus is on efficient market-farming methodologies, exploring innovative crops and varieties, and maximizing the use of all edible parts of the plant's life-cycle.

Role Summary:
As a vital support to the Field Manager and a daily team leader, the Assistant Field Manager will significantly contribute to the farm's operational success. This role involves collaborating with a skilled team to deliver unique, high-quality produce for The Charter Oak and our various restaurant partners throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Master all fieldwork protocols and ensure adherence to established standards.
  • Lead the crew or assist the Field Manager in executing fieldwork tasks such as planting, weeding, bed preparation, and general farm upkeep.
  • Act as vigilant eyes in the field to identify and address any emerging issues.
  • Monitor crop conditions, equipment functionality, and the overall aesthetic of the farm.
  • Assist with harvesting as needed.
  • Oversee farm operations and crew in the absence of the Field Manager.

Candidate Qualifications:
  • Fluent in English and capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Able to perform physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and self-motivated.
  • Exhibit exceptional attention to detail.
  • Capable of following complex instructions and directions.
  • Possess a strong drive and receptiveness to feedback.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Previous experience in gardening or farming is essential; management experience is a plus but not required.
