Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant (MA) is a vital member of the healthcare team at Colusa Medical Center, providing exceptional patient care and support on Saturdays. Under the guidance of licensed physicians or mid-level practitioners, the MA assists in delivering and evaluating nursing care, coordinating with other healthcare disciplines, and ensuring seamless patient experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Takes vital signs accurately, including data collection, height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
- Performs procedures, treatments, and/or tests as assigned by the provider, reporting results in a timely manner.
- Instructs patients in proper specimen collection, including stool, urine, and sputum.
- Assists with sterile surgical procedures, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Monitors patient condition and behavior, communicating changes to the provider and ensuring timely interventions.
- Supports patient care delivery, as needed, and prepares specimens for testing.
- Accurately documents all actions taken, maintaining up-to-date patient records.
- Cleans and sets up examination rooms, ensuring a clean and organized environment.
- Initiates emergency procedures, following established policies and protocols.
- Remains calm and composed in high-pressure situations, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
- Accurately performs urine drug screen collections and documents CHDP data, referrals, immunization records, chief complaints, and vital signs.
- Assists with gynecological exams, ear lavage procedures, Accucheck calibrations, Hemocue checks, urine dip tests, HCG tests, stool occult tests, vision screenings, audiometries, spirometry tests, and EKGs.
- May transport medication, including expired medications, to and from the hospital pharmacy to the clinics.
Requirements:
- High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Current Medical Assistant certification/license preferred.
- Current certification in CPR.
- Prior experience in a medical office setting preferred.
- Pediatric experience preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
