Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Lifeguard to join our team at the Howard County Recreation and Parks Department. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our aquatic facility and responding to emergencies in a calm and effective manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guard the aquatic facility and respond to emergencies in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of the facility and report any safety hazards or concerns to management.
  • Provide general information to guests and enforce aquatic facility rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and safe facility, including inspecting equipment and reporting any issues to management.
  • Attend and participate in all mandatory staff meetings and training courses.
  • Maintain open communication with guests, participants, and parents.
  • Set up and clean up the facility daily.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, including adhering to uniform requirements.
Qualifications
  • Certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Lifeguard.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work as an individual and within the framework of a team.
  • Understand and abide by the department's customer service standards.
  • Maintain personal physical endurance and agility necessary to perform job functions.
  • Reliable transportation and evening availability.
Experience
  • Previous experience in lifeguarding is preferred.
Rate of Pay

Contingent - Paraprofessional. Salary commensurate with experience and employment commitment. $17.00-$20.00 per hour.
