Senior Principal Engineer Software

to join the

Global Surveillance Division

supporting a team of qualified, diverse individuals.

This position will be located in San Diego, CA.

The Senior Principal Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, documentation, testing, and debugging of application software and systems that incorporate logical and mathematical solutions.

Engages in multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.

Identifies user requirements; evaluates system capabilities to address issues related to program intent, output specifications, input data acquisition, programming methodologies, and controls; prepares operational guidelines; designs and develops compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.

Ensures compliance with software standards.

Basic Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 9 or more years of software development experience, or a Master's degree with 7 or more years of experience in software development, or a PhD with 4 or more years of software development experience.

Experience in web client development utilizing JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and HTML.
Familiarity with containers, service orchestration, and various virtualization techniques.
Proficient in object-oriented development using C#, Java, and Python.
Experience in developing application services that process/transform/transfer heterogeneous messages (e.g., XML, WCF, REST, TCP, etc.)
Knowledge of communication middleware protocols.
Experience in thick client development using C#.
Experience working with cross-functional agile teams.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with XMPP and ActiveMQ protocols.
Automated testing experience using the Robot Framework test automation framework.
Automated deployment experience utilizing Ansible.
Familiarity with Agile and DevOps principles and lifecycle.
Experience with DevOps tools including Git, Bitbucket, JIRA, and Crucible.
Experience with the Kongsberg TerraLens Mapping SDK.
Current DoD Top Secret or upgradable Secret clearance.

Salary Range:
$121,000 - $181,400

The above salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
