Key Responsibilities

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at LHC Group oversees all facets of patient services, managing the activities of clinical staff and allied health professionals, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, optimizing financial outcomes, and enhancing quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.

  • Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, policies, and procedures related to hospice care and Medicare/Medicaid requirements on a daily basis.
  • Must be readily available (or designate an alternate) to be present on-site during operational hours or accessible via phone when off-site, and available after hours as necessary.
  • Leads the daily operations of the organization and serves as the primary driver of the Care Management Process. The CNO or designated RN, such as a Patient Care Manager, will receive daily updates on patient status from staff. This includes reviewing patient care documentation, referral details, recertification processes, discharge summaries, and incident reporting on a daily basis.
  • Analyzes monthly financial performance in relation to all operational aspects to ensure that high-quality patient care is delivered in a cost-effective manner.
  • Engages in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) planning and processes, including reporting and developing improvement action plans as necessary. This encompasses chart audits, patient satisfaction metrics, financial assessments, contract evaluations, and addressing patient/family concerns with appropriate follow-up.

Qualifications and Experience

Licensure Requirements

  • Must possess a valid medical license; be a licensed registered nurse; hold a licensed social worker credential; or have a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three (3) years of proven success in the relevant field and at least one (1) year of full-time experience in a hospice, home health, or similar healthcare delivery environment.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience in healthcare is preferred.
  • Current CPR certification is required for Chief Nursing Officers who may provide direct patient services.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation or public transit.
