Fire Support Specialist Job Description

As a Fire Support Specialist in the Army National Guard, you will play a critical role in supporting infantry and tank units in combat operations. Your expertise will be essential in providing accurate and timely intelligence to artillery units, enabling them to deliver precise and effective fire support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain communications equipment to relay critical information to artillery units
  • Operate laser range finders to determine target locations
  • Encode and decode messages to ensure secure communication
  • Assist in preparing and distributing fire support plans
  • Determine target locations using computers or manual calculations
Requirements:
  • Physical and mental fitness to perform under pressure
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
Benefits:

As a Fire Support Specialist, you will have the opportunity to develop highly sought-after skills in computer consulting, information technology support, and data processing. You will also receive training in artillery tactics, system operations, and ammunition handling techniques. With the Army National Guard, you will earn a regular paycheck while learning these valuable skills.

After completing 10 weeks of Basic Training, you will attend six weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), where you will receive hands-on and classroom training in fire support operations. This training will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in this critical role.
