Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Plumbing and Fire Protection Systems Designer to join our team at SFCS. As a collaborative and innovative center of design excellence, we are dedicated to defining the next generation of Living, Learning and Healing Environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop plans and specifications for the construction of plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Collaborate with senior staff to determine appropriate plumbing and fire protection systems, location, and preliminary cost estimates
  • Perform fieldwork to determine a design direction, including making educated decisions on system designs and upgrades
  • Work with architects, clients, and other engineering disciplines to coordinate systems during design and production drawings
  • Prepare contract documents using the latest version of AutoCAD and/or Revit software to design and provide concepts for schematic design packages
  • Develop technical construction specifications to appropriately support project design and drawings
  • Assist in plumbing and fire protection construction administration of the project, including shop drawing review, site visits, cost proposal evaluations, and response to questions from the field
Requirements
  • Associates Degree in a related engineering/science discipline with a sound knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • 10+ years' experience in the design of plumbing and fire protection systems for buildings
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit software (Revit preferred), Microsoft Office, and an understanding of national standard plumbing codes, building codes, and NFPA codes in regard to plumbing and fire protection system design
  • Ability to meet with architects and other team members to determine appropriate plumbing and fire protection systems, location, and preliminary cost estimates
  • Ability to prepare contract documents using the latest version of AutoCAD and/or Revit software to design and provide concepts for schematic design packages
  • Ability to develop technical construction specifications to appropriately support project design and drawings
  • Ability to assist in plumbing and fire protection construction administration of the project, including shop drawing review, site visits, cost proposal evaluations, and response to questions from the field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate and/or registered Professional Engineer
  • ASPE (American Society of Plumbing Engineers) CPDT, OR CPD, preferred or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment
  • LEED certifications are a plus
