Cable Infrastructure Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Cable Engineer to support the Department of Energy activities in the DC Metro Area.

As a Cable Engineer, you will be responsible for installing and documenting new and/or updated Inside Plant cable infrastructure, including conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber, and associated elements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with Department of Energy to analyze, administer, and maintain telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure
  • Analyzing, administering, and maintaining telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure
  • Dressing, terminating, and testing cables and components, including CAT6 and fiber optic cabling
  • Ability to work with power tools and ladders
  • Ability to work well with others and communicate with supervisors
  • Computer literate with basic Networking Skills
  • Interpreting service orders, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematics
  • Testing, locating, installing, and repairing cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls, and performing routine maintenance
  • Verifying work order information and receipt of all necessary equipment and information
  • Verifying service by testing installed cabling; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems

Requirements include:

  • 3-5 years of related telecommunications experience
  • Strong customer service experience is highly preferred
  • Technical skills, including familiarity with TIA/EIA and BICSI rules, regulations, and standards in reference to cable infrastructure
  • Ability to communicate effectively to personnel of various expertise levels
  • Solid Customer Support Skills in a high visibility environment
  • Problem analysis and problem solving
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
