Career Consultant Role Overview
The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a highly skilled Career Consultant to join our team in Houston. As a Career Consultant, you will play a vital role in supporting the career development of our MBA students, providing one-on-one coaching, career educational programming, and connecting students with resources to accelerate their progression.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and track career management advising for 110+ working professional MBA students in Houston, including career exploration, personal brand, elevator pitch, resumes, interviewing, and networking.
- Advising meetings will be held during the day, evenings, and some weekends, with travel throughout the Houston metro area.
- Research industry best practices in career management program content and delivery, and integrate learnings into our curriculum.
- Build relationships and stay abreast of trends in key industries/sectors important to Houston MBA students.
- Partner proactively with the program team, employer & corporate ecosystem team, and prospective employers to generate interest, awareness, hiring, networking, and career development of Houston MBA students.
- Nurture alumni engagement to support students in networking with alumni, including in-person lunch chats, spring networking events, and other virtual/in-person networking events.
- Promote Working Professional MBA program students to employers for MBA and Experienced Professional hiring opportunities.
- Partner proactively with employer teams to generate interest and awareness of students from all MBA programs and to facilitate hiring, networking, and career development of the students, in particular in the Houston metro area.
- Lead all direct student communication/marketing regarding career programming, deadlines, and local recruiting events, and coordination with cross-program career activities and events.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in business, education, counseling, or a related field.
- ~5+ years of work experience in a career coaching, corporate recruiting, leadership development, succession planning, and/or business development.
- ~Extensive knowledge of MBA level job search skills and recruiting processes.
- ~Demonstrated project management abilities, interpersonal skills, professional demeanor, and excellence in oral and written presentation skills.
- ~Must be able to work some evenings and occasional travel, including overnight travel.
- ~Comfort with data analysis and insight development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA degree or other relevant graduate degree or 7+ years of relevant industry or functional experience.
- Prior MBA recruiting, career services, or admissions experience that includes working with Executive or Working Professional MBA programs.
- Extensive business experience in fields and industries highly sought after by current MBAs.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective rapport with MBA students, alumni, faculty, staff, and recruiters.
- Experience with Blackboard/Canvas and/or Symplicity/MBA Focus.
Work Environment:
This position is a full-time role based in Houston, TX, and is eligible for a flexible telework schedule with regular travel to Austin's main campus required.
