The Department of Linguistics within the Division of Social Sciences at UC San Diego is dedicated to fostering a diverse and exceptional faculty, staff, and student body. The Department is currently seeking applications for temporary, non-tenure track instructors (Unit 18) to teach language courses within our Heritage Language Program.
Heritage languages are typically acquired in the home environment and differ from the dominant language of the surrounding community. Our heritage language courses are designed to address the unique needs and challenges faced by heritage language learners, utilizing a communicative language teaching approach. Responsibilities include delivering effective instruction, teaching classes in alignment with course objectives, adhering to departmental and program policies, and providing academic guidance to students.
A list of available heritage languages can be provided upon request.
Appointments may range from part-time to full-time, covering up to two courses per quarter, with durations varying from one quarter to one year, and potential for extension based on departmental needs.
The posting will remain open throughout the year to accommodate future course requirements or until the positions are filled.

Master's degree in Linguistics, Language, or a related field.
Preferred QualificationsOne year of experience teaching second or heritage languages at the university level.
Demonstrated familiarity with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) guidelines.
