Job Summary

Johnson, Mirmiran, and Thompson Inc. is seeking an experienced Subsurface Utility Engineering Party Chief to join our Underground Utilities, Land Surveying, and Mapping team in New Bern and Raleigh. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading project assignments, supervising multiple crews, and ensuring the successful application of multiple types of utility designating and locating equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, engineers, and contractor representatives to ensure project objectives are clearly defined.
  • Assign and monitor work, providing input for evaluation of members of the field survey crew to ensure high-quality results.
  • Instruct and train survey crew in survey and mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Complete daily report cards and field note sketches to document project progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide time estimates for specific tasks to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Perform complex surveying calculations using calculator, computer, and coordinate geometry software such as AutoCAD to ensure accuracy and precision.
Requirements
  • Must be able to fully comprehend and interpret roadway and utility construction plans, and utility record drawings to ensure accurate project execution.
  • Use of multiple types of utility designating equipment to ensure efficient and effective project completion.
  • Good organizational, written, and verbal communications skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Vacuum Excavation and Ground Penetrating Radar equipment/procedures to ensure safe and accurate project execution.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions to ensure project completion.
  • Able to bend, kneel, lift, and carry up to 50lbs as needed to ensure safe and efficient project execution.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field 90% of the time, requiring extensive bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Work is performed within a general office environment 10% of the time, requiring occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
