Purpose of Position:
The City of Maitland, FL is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to serve as a School Crossing Guard. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety of pedestrians at designated school crossings while children are going to and from school.

Key Responsibilities:
• Remains standing at the school crossing in full view of passing traffic for a specified period of time.
• Guides and directs pedestrians and school children through busy intersections utilizing issued safety gear and hand motions to ensure pedestrian safety.
• Remains alert for possible safety concerns at school crossing. Reports emergencies, equipment defects, and traffic dangers. Records and reports license number of potentially dangerous vehicles.

Requirements:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must successfully pass a physical and complete the required training for School Crossing Guards before starting job. Must obtain the Florida School Crossing Guard Certification, and re-certify annually.
• Pass Police Department background screening including a drug screen.
• Possess certification in First-Aid or obtain this certification within three months of employment.

Working Conditions:
This position is considered an emergency/disaster position. During emergency conditions, all City employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation, which requires that the employee be ready, willing, and able to report to work during emergencies and/or disasters of any kind, notwithstanding any other commitments the employee may have and be able perform emergency services duties, as assigned.
