Job Overview

Jensen Hughes is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join our team in one of our Maryland or Virginia offices. This position offers both in-office and hybrid work options. As a leading fire protection consulting firm, we provide a comprehensive range of professional services, including building and fire code consulting, sprinkler system design, fire alarm design, and performance-based fire engineering design for local, national, and international projects. The ideal candidate will possess a well-rounded background in fire protection and code consulting, along with strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills. The role will encompass various aspects of fire protection engineering, focusing on Building Code and Fire Code consulting. Responsibilities will include coordinating and conducting building plan reviews, interpreting building codes, developing alternative solutions, preparing building design reports, and collaborating with fire protection engineering design teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and implementing fire protection strategies and coordinating with design teams and authorities having jurisdiction.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and implement a diverse array of engineering design and consulting projects.
  • Meet client needs and expectations by completing assigned tasks on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate and conduct building and fire code reviews and analyses, including plan reviews and site assessments.
  • Prepare and peer review project-related technical documentation.
  • Develop fire protection strategies, performance-based design methodologies, and alternative solutions to address client design challenges.
  • Communicate effectively with project team members, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with business development initiatives.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in code consulting, design of fire suppression and alarm systems, and developing performance-based strategies in a project design context.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering (preferably Fire Protection), Architecture, or a related field.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or other professional designation preferred. Candidates with significant industry experience in fire protection and code consulting who are not on the engineering track will also be considered.
  • Experience in developing building code concepts and equivalencies, conducting building plan reviews, and performing field reviews/inspections.
  • Ability to present clear and technically sound fire protection engineering strategies.
  • Strong ability to work independently and collaborate with other industry professionals, associated trades, and jurisdictional authorities.
  • Knowledge and experience in fire alarm and fire sprinkler design is advantageous.
