Job Summary:The Medical Assistant will play a vital role in creating a professional and friendly work environment, utilizing medical and administrative skills to provide support to patients and staff. This includes prepping clients for appointments, administering medications, completing documentation, measuring vital signs, and maintaining a healthy and safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Administer medication under the direction of a Physician or Nurse Practitioner.
- Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
- Create a standout experience for clients by assisting attending prescribers, escorting patients to exam rooms, confirming reason for visit, interviewing/instructing patients, measuring vital signs, and completing documentation.
- Ensure all related reports, labs, and information are filed and available in the patient's medical records prior to their appointment.
- Maintain all logs and required checks, including refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, etc.
- Maintain secure patient information and patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential.
- Ask prompted health-related questions and follow structured screening protocol.
- Conduct nasopharyngeal and/or anterior nare specimen collection for the purpose of screening patients for COVID-19.
- Administer vaccines and/or medications per valid prescriber orders.
- Provide patient education regarding COVID symptoms, prevention, testing, and when to report to the Emergency room.
- Reconcile the lab specimen with the patient's laboratory order and batch order in preparation for laboratory pick-up.
- Follow all requirements related to personal protective equipment, hand hygiene, cleaning of work station, and physical distancing practices.
- Assist with clinic set-up, tear-down, and sanitation under the supervision of the Clinic Manager.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- 1+ years' experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Phlebotomy certified with experience in routine exposure to blood or body fluids (OSHA Category I and II) preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Records preferred.
- Possess a working knowledge of mental illness and the disease concept of chemical dependency, mental health and chemical dependency treatment, Alcoholics Anonymous philosophy, and group dynamics preferred.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment. While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required. Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.
