Job Summary

Archbold Biological Station and Buck Island Ranch is seeking a highly skilled Data Manager/Analyst to join our team. As a Data Manager/Analyst, you will be responsible for overseeing the management of data generated by our ecological research projects. You will work closely with researchers and other staff to ensure that data is collected, stored, and organized accurately and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage new data tasks or projects efficiently.
  • Develop and implement secure and efficient protocols for data organization.
  • Oversee and troubleshoot data streams from various sources to servers.
  • Automate data input, monitoring, and maintenance of our data management software.
  • Develop techniques for data collection and quality checks to ensure accuracy and adequacy.
  • Establish rules and procedures for data sharing with staff and external collaborators.
  • Effectively communicate best practices for scientific data management.
  • Assist research staff with daily use of our data systems, including report generation and data extraction/formatting.
  • Design and implement relational databases across various software systems.
  • Provide basic GIS, IT, and web task support as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, biology, or a relevant field.
  • Excellent understanding of data management functions.
  • Proficiency in coding languages (R, Python, etc.).
  • Understanding of SQL and NoSQL based platforms and languages.
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools and processes.
  • Familiarity or coursework with modern relational databases and information system technologies.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to independently research and master new software.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Access, Word, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Passion for Archbold's mission, with interest or experience in biological research and conservation.
  • Knowledge of HTML, VBA, and Linux-based operating systems.
  • Familiarity with Big Data concepts and data modeling.
  • Experience with MS Access database creation and maintenance, including form design.
  • Familiarity with ESRI Suite (ArcGIS Pro, Survey123, FieldMaps).
  • Understanding of scientific disciplines and procedures, including research life cycles and FAIR principles of data sharing.
What We Offer

This is a full-time position with benefits. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to work on-site, but we are open to discussing hybrid work arrangements with qualified candidates. Salary range is expected to be $40,000-$45,000 depending on experience.
