Job Title: Residential Mortgage Underwriter

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Residential Mortgage Underwriter to join our team at Sage Home Loans Corporation. As a Residential Mortgage Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting various types of residential real estate secured loans, providing input into operational initiatives, and serving as a subject matter expert in residential underwriting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite residential real estate secured loans, ensuring compliance with investor guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide input into operational initiatives, benchmarks, and metrics to meet department objectives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in residential underwriting, particularly agency (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac) underwriting guidelines.
  • Analyze complex loans with specific investor guideline overlays and industry trends related to loan underwriting and home equity lending.
  • Review, analyze, and audit complex residential real estate loan transactions for data input accuracy, regulatory compliance, and document requirements.
  • Complete cash flow analysis to determine the borrower's cash flow and overall financial condition.
  • Utilize manual and automated underwriting to determine appropriate conditions and loan decisions according to investor requirements.
  • Review collateral/property appraisals to ensure documents meet all investor requirements.
  • Ensure integrity of all state and federal regulations affecting the underwriting and issuance of mortgage credit to borrowers.
  • Approve loans up to lending authority, review and sign off secondary market loan denials, and escalate loans above authority for appropriate review.
  • Provide input for development and revision of department procedures related to processing residential real estate loans.

Requirements:

  • At least 3-5 years of underwriting experience.
  • Knowledge of FHA, VA loans, and automated underwriting systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with applicants, loan officers, appraisal/title vendors, and other interested parties to resolve underwriting issues.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
