Position Summary:

We are seeking a full-time Grower to support various nursery operations. This role involves contributing to the production of premium forest seedling crops by employing effective nursery practices. The Grower will have the opportunity to assist, coordinate, and mentor nursery staff in essential work activities. This dynamic and physically engaging position offers a safe working environment and a chance to make a positive impact on the environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute water, fertilization, and greenhouse cultural programs as outlined in Crop Prescriptions.
  • Utilize the Argus Environmental Control System for irrigation, climate management, and alarm protocols.
  • Monitor seedling growth through morphological assessments and tissue nutrient evaluations.
  • Conduct inspections for pests and diseases, implementing control measures as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records, including computerized documentation systems.
  • Inspect, repair, and replace Argus monitoring equipment and software as required.
  • Oversee and train seasonal irrigation personnel.
  • Instruct nursery workers on safe and efficient practices in weeding, quality control, and cultural methods.
  • Adhere to a company-directed Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy for pesticide applications.
  • Provide regular feedback on growing programs to the Production Manager.
  • Perform maintenance on filters and inspect irrigation systems for functionality.
  • Assist with inventory management of crops and growing materials.
  • Encourage collaboration and teamwork at all levels.
  • Establish targets (e.g., production goals, timelines) and assess achievements.
Team Dynamics:

The Grower will collaborate with other nursery staff under the guidance of the Production Manager. This position is located in a picturesque region, offering a variety of activities and stunning scenery throughout the year.

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License and dependable transportation.
  • Familiarity with greenhouse equipment and climate control systems.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities.
  • Capability to perform basic maintenance on greenhouse and irrigation equipment.
  • Physical ability to climb, stand, and stoop for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pesticide Applicator Certificate.
  • A degree in horticulture or relevant experience in forest seedling nursery operations.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Experience with greenhouse monitoring software and hardware, preferably Argus.
