Job Summary

Cedars-Sinai is seeking a highly skilled Research Bioinformatician I to join our team in the Heart Institute. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing general bioinformatics analysis and software support for projects involving omics data.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in algorithms, scientific computing, and machine learning or statistics, with experience in manipulating, analyzing, and annotating large genomic data sets. Familiarity with C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, and the Unix (Linux) environment is also required.

The Research Bioinformatician I will assist in the development, testing, and maintenance of modular software pipelines for genome sequencing, assembly, annotation, metagenomic analysis, and genotyping using high-throughput sequencing platforms.

The successful candidate will be responsible for summarizing data analysis results, making preliminary interpretations of the data, and reporting the results for possible publications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general bioinformatics analysis and software support for projects involving omics data
  • Manage data, including loading and querying data from database systems, downloading omic data from public repositories, and transforming data to the necessary formats
  • Assist in the development, testing, and maintenance of modular software pipelines for genome sequencing, assembly, annotation, metagenomic analysis, and genotyping using high-throughput sequencing platforms
  • Summarize data analysis results and make preliminary interpretations of the data
  • Report results for possible publications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an area related to bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology, or computer science
  • Three years of experience in a research environment
  • Background and work knowledge in algorithms, scientific computing, and machine learning or statistics
  • Familiarity with C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, and the Unix (Linux) environment
  • Experience in manipulating, analyzing, and annotating large genomic data sets
