About the Role

Illumina is a leading biotechnology company that is revolutionizing the field of genomics. We are seeking a highly skilled Equipment Engineer to join our team in San Diego, California.

Job Summary

The Equipment Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting equipment at our headquarters, ensuring that it operates at world-class levels in a fast-paced, regulated environment. This role will involve working with a dynamic team to support multiple operations and technologies, helping Illumina deliver its complex product pipeline in a reliable and sustainable manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the equipment engineering discipline and coordinate with vendors and engineering contractors to ensure seamless operations.
  • Generate standard operating procedures and work instructions to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Plan, manage, prioritize, coordinate, and execute multiple parallel activities, including calibrations, preventive maintenance, supplier support, and project activities.
  • Investigate and resolve technical problems using optical, mechanical, electrical, and fluidics knowledge.
  • Work in a team environment to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
Requirements
  • Ability to learn and understand component-level failures.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changes in priority, and redirect efforts as necessary.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Windows.
  • Chemical analytical equipment repair and troubleshooting is preferred.
  • Computer trouble-shooting and repair (preferred experience with Microsoft Windows).
  • Data collection, analysis, and ability to summarize results.
  • Experience using engineering troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Good to Excellent Math and analytical skills.
  • Good to Excellent Verbal and written documentation skills in English.
  • Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) is a plus.
  • Knowledgeable of optical/mechanical/electrical and fluidic systems knowledge of machine language (PLC, HMI, I/O).
  • Work experience in Life Sciences/Pharmaceutical/Medical Devices industries is an advantage.
Education and Experience
  • At 1-2 years of related experience with a BS or equivalent work experience.
  • Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Chemical, and Industrial Engineering preferred.
  • Experience working in a clinically regulated environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment maintaining production equipment is required for higher-level positions.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated base salary range for the Equipment Engineer role is $61,700 - $92,500. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
