JOB INFORMATION

The Road Marking Equipment Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of specialized vehicles and equipment used for applying traffic markings. This role includes operating a 3-axle, 5-speed, automatic, dual steering traffic striper and a Bobcat tractor for guardrail installation. The operator will also manage computerized paint dispensing systems, including paint guns and pumps, ensuring the proper application of heated paint.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Recording striping footage applied to roadways using a footage counter.
  • Performing routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on paint equipment.
  • Interpreting engineering work orders and specifications to execute traffic marking tasks.
  • Loading materials and directing traffic around work zones.
  • Leading and overseeing the work of Utility Workers and Laborers.
  • Conducting repairs on paint spraying equipment as necessary.
  • Preparing reports on completed striping projects.
  • Communicating effectively with municipal staff and the public.

NOTES:

Employees in this classification may be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, with potential for additional pay. Compliance with drug and alcohol testing is mandatory for those operating commercial vehicles, as per state law.

Successful candidates will undergo a background check and must meet the following minimum requirements:


EXPERIENCE:

At least six months of full-time experience operating vehicles requiring a California Class A or B Driver License.


LICENSE:

A valid California Class A or B Driver License and a current DMV medical certificate are required at the time of application.


HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

Experience with larger vehicles equipped with mechanical and hydraulic systems is preferred.


REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
