Job Summary

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Librarian to join the Department of Social Services (DSS) McMillan Library team. As a key member of the library staff, the successful candidate will provide support to the overall functionality of the library, with a focus on day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to the library's day-to-day operations, including cataloging, collection development, and research assistance.
  • Select and acquire books, journals, and other printed materials to maintain an adequate collection of standard and current research literature.
  • Assist in the creation of presentations and training sessions on library literacy, research support, and specialized library services.
  • Prepare and review reports on library usage and collection development.
  • Distribute and collect circulating materials, and ensure proper documentation of patron activity.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Library Director in their absence.
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in library science.
  • At least one year of full-time experience as a professional librarian utilizing computers and online resources.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced library environment, with a focus on providing excellent customer service to agency staff and patrons. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 9 AM-5 PM.
