Physical Plant Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the upkeep of State of Delaware facilities. The successful candidate will have experience in multiple trades fields, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC. They will also possess strong problem-solving skills and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and complex maintenance repairs on building structures, fixtures, and equipment
  • Modify and maintain electrical systems, including installing and repairing electrical components
  • Restore and renovate facilities, bridges, and historical buildings, including building partitions, shelving, and renovating furniture and equipment
  • Operate and maintain life safety devices, such as auxiliary generators, sprinkler systems, and emergency lighting
  • Oversee the work of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance personnel, providing training and guidance as needed
Requirements
  • Possession of a Delaware Journeyperson or higher Electrician license, or equivalent requirements as determined by the State Board of Electrical Examiners
  • Six months experience in performing work in a variety of trades fields, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC
  • Knowledge of interpreting blueprints, schematics, or technical drawings
  • Knowledge of estimating cost, time, and materials for projects
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License
Working Conditions

This position requires working on weekends, holidays, and often during inclement weather conditions. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision.
