Job Title: Bridge Engineer - Early Career

This is an exciting opportunity for an Entry-Level Bridge Engineer to join our team at WSP in Kansas City, MO.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to assist in the design and development of transportation structures, including bridges, culverts, and retaining walls.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the evaluation, development, and design of required structures.
  • Perform analysis and design calculations for structures.
  • Calculate estimated quantities and cost estimates for structures.
  • Provide guidance to CADD technicians for the development of structural design plans.
  • Review fabricator/contractor working drawings.
  • Research applicable design codes and guidelines to ensure design compliance.
  • Research design options and document findings.
  • Coordinate assignments with the project team and supervisor.
  • May use Bentley Connect (OpenRoads Designer or geopak) to perform engineering tasks.
  • Perform 3D modeling of bridges/structures using programs such as Bentley OpenBridge Modeler, STADD, LARSA.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Quick learner with analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with design codes, familiarity with AASHTO Bridge Design codes preferred.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Ability to give attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., Bentley Connect OpenRoads or geopak, AutoCAD, Finite Element Analysis software, MathCAD, LEAP Bridge Concrete, MDX, LARSA).
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Master's Degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with emphasis in structures.
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
