Wireless Communications Research Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Wireless Communications Research Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in wireless communications systems engineering, with a focus on developing innovative solutions for military and government sponsors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and development of wireless communication systems, including the design, development, and testing of novel signal processing approaches.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address complex technical challenges in wireless communications.
  • Develop and maintain technical reports, presentations, and other documentation to communicate research findings and results.
  • Support the testing and evaluation of prototype systems, working closely with sponsors to ensure mission success.
Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in wireless communications engineering.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least five years of experience in commercial and/or government Wireless Communications Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience in implementation languages such as MATLAB, Python, C++/C, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
  • Recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community sponsors and programs.
  • Active Top Secret clearance or higher.
