Position Title: Chief Human Resources Officer

Position Summary:

The Chief Human Resources Officer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Human Resources management. This role provides expert guidance to organizational leaders and staff, fostering a workplace culture that is inclusive and supportive. Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership Advisory: Act as a strategic HR advisor to the leadership team, offering expertise in areas such as recruitment, employee relations, performance evaluation, and workplace culture.
  • Policy Development and Compliance: Oversee the formulation and implementation of HR policies, manage labor relations, and support union negotiations and compensation strategies.
  • Internal Communication: Deliver prompt and effective responses to inquiries from leadership and staff through various communication channels. Facilitate meetings and presentations to staff.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Guide and mentor HR team members through goal setting, collaboration, performance assessments, and recognition initiatives.
  • Employee Experience: Collaborate with leadership to cultivate a positive, inclusive, and rewarding work environment.
  • Compensation and Benefits Management: Lead the HR team in researching and implementing competitive and equitable compensation and benefits practices.
  • Community Representation: Represent the organization at various community events, including job fairs and workshops.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.

Certification Requirements:

PHR or SPHR certification is preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of five years of comprehensive experience in human resources management with progressive responsibilities, ideally within the public sector.
  • At least seven years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Experience in labor negotiations is essential.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Thorough understanding of federal and state employment laws.
  • Familiarity with public employment regulations in Michigan.

Competencies and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of management best practices.
  • Awareness of current labor laws affecting both employees and employers.
  • Understanding of strategic factors influencing business operations.
  • Ability to conduct research and make informed decisions.
