Essential Qualifications

Note: Three positions are available.
A Bachelor's degree in a Human Services discipline; three years of experience in human services, criminal justice, or investigative roles; one year of supervisory experience; or a comparable combination of education and experience. Familiarity with Evidence-Based Practices in Community Corrections is essential. A solid understanding of the criminal justice framework; capability to lead, manage, and oversee personnel; proficiency in effective communication with individuals under supervision, incarcerated individuals, their families, judges, attorneys, service providers, and other stakeholders involved in the pretrial and probation process. Knowledge of investigative procedures; must possess strong oral and written communication abilities; basic computer skills are required. Understanding of court operations and decorum is necessary.

A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory. According to the Virginia DMV point system, the record must not show six or more demerit points within the last twenty-four months, or one major violation of six demerit points within the last thirty-six months. Applicants with out-of-state driving records must obtain and present these records during the interview. Records should reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of the interview. Pre-employment drug screening, FBI background checks, and verification of education/degree are required.

This role involves working in high-security environments governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy," necessitating a more rigorous criminal background check. Candidates must be US citizens or lawful residents of the US for the past ten consecutive years.

This position is classified as Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana is prohibited for this role.
Responsibilities

Oversee employee development planning and evaluation for a designated team of Community Corrections Probation and Pretrial Officers, including assigning and reviewing work tasks; ensuring adequate court and office coverage; reviewing case files for accuracy in the Pretrial/Community Corrections Case Management system. Conduct quality assurance tasks related to local probation, pretrial, and pretrial investigations. Facilitate appropriate referrals to the Dual Treatment Track, Center of Risk Reduction, Medication Assisted Treatment caseload, Drug Court, and Veterans Docket. Support the continuation of Evidence-Based Practices by monitoring the techniques and assignments of Probation and Pretrial Officers. Evaluate staff competencies in Effective Practices in Correctional Supervision (EPICS), Strategies for Effective Pretrial Supervision (STEPS), and Motivational Interviewing. Supervise assigned pretrial and local cases. Conduct court research to obtain warrants and necessary information for proper client supervision within state and local standards. Prepare and deliver oral and written reports for court, DCJS, and the County. Assist with case management tasks, client intakes, and drug/alcohol testing as needed. Support vendors in the electronic monitoring of clients. Undertake special projects and additional duties as required. Maintain effective communication with stakeholders and treatment providers to coordinate service delivery. Expected to perform all staff functions when necessary.
Work Schedule

Monday-Friday; 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Occasional early morning hours starting at 4:30 a.m. may be required to cover for Pretrial Investigators. Hours may vary, including occasional weekends, evenings, or early mornings.
