Position Overview:
The Avionics Project Engineer is responsible for providing design and testing support across various facets of Avionics development, particularly in relation to the Robotics Systems division.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the design and support of spacecraft fault management systems.
  • Collaborate with the design team on the selection of Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) components, connectors, and harness designs.
  • Support Systems Engineers in maintaining baseline test configurations and documenting any changes.
  • Manage purchase requisitions and maintain accurate records of parts inventory.
  • Generate and uphold design documentation, including EEE parts derating assessments, radiation assessments, and Bills of Material (BOM).
  • Work alongside design engineers to develop procedures for analysis and verification testing of flight hardware, including thermal vacuum, vibration, electromagnetic interference, and radiation tests.
  • Document and maintain baseline test configurations and any modifications.
  • Create essential documentation for assigned tasks, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP).
  • Engage in a collaborative team environment, reporting to the project manager for technical guidance and task assignments.
  • Plan and execute troubleshooting for mechanical and electrical failures in hardware or testing support systems.
  • Perform duties according to established guidelines and instructions.
  • Collaborate with electrical technicians to construct and test designed systems.
  • Execute additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 2-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware.
  • Familiarity with System Engineering and Formal Engineering Methods.
  • Knowledge of connector selection and wiring schemes for control systems.
  • Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and logic analyzers.
  • Prior experience with electrical schematic entry and PCB layout.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable team player.
  • Ability to work in an electronics lab and perform troubleshooting tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Atlassian tools.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with robotic systems, particularly manipulators.
  • Familiarity with hand tools for assembly and troubleshooting.
  • Prior experience in hardware anomaly troubleshooting and failure analysis.
  • Experience in procedure development.
  • Co-op or internship experience with NASA agencies.
  • Understanding of the Engineering Life Cycle process.
  • Experience in cable design and analog instrumentation systems.
  • Prior experience in power supply design and conditioning systems.
  • Experience coordinating requirements with external vendors.
  • Familiarity with NASA Quality operational procedures.
