Job Summary:

As a Pharmacy Technician On-Call Kailua Kona, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy. Your responsibilities will include filling and packaging medication, restocking shelves, and providing exceptional customer service to patients and healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Greets patients and healthcare professionals in a friendly and helpful manner, initiating service transactions using proper forms and processes.
  • Refers patient inquiries and issues to pharmacists for resolution.
  • Inputs patient and prescription information into our system to produce labels and assist with the prescription filling process.
  • Matches prescriptions with labels, selects the correct medication and quantity, and presents the completed product to the pharmacist for checking.
  • In a hospital setting, prepares adequate supplies of medication for unit dose distribution and processes clinic and hospital drug requisitions.
  • Assists with and/or provides medication, OTC products, or supplies to patients in a helpful and caring manner, referring consultation functions to pharmacists as needed.
  • Picks up and delivers medications and supplies to designated areas or persons per schedule.
  • Calculates prices for prescriptions or orders, sells non-prescription drugs, and collects cash, checks, or credit card payments for collectible services.
  • Balances monies, checks, and credit card charge documents daily against cash register receipts, reconciling any discrepancies and preparing bank deposits.
  • Gathers and computes data and information for various reports, studies, and statistics as needed.
  • Maintains accurate OTC charge schedules and price lists, adjusting changes as necessary.
  • Orders routine bank supplies for the cashiering area, ensures all equipment is operating properly, and advises supervisors of any malfunctions or reports them to the appropriate service company.
  • In a hospital setting, maintains an appropriate level of drugs and supplies for operations.
  • Orders, receives, stores, returns, credits, and discards drugs and supplies.
  • Packs, compounds, reconstitutes, and distributes inventory for issue, transfer, or dispensing.
  • Files prescriptions and transaction documents in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Accepts responsibility for resolving immediate problems and accomplishing assigned tasks, reporting irregularities as needed.
  • Inspects and maintains the work area and equipment in an organized, clean, safe, and efficient working condition.
  • Observes and complies with departmental policies and procedures, as well as organizational house rules such as safety, attendance, proper attire, and continuing education.
  • Coordinates and answers incoming phone calls, handling or directing calls to the appropriate individuals.
Requirements:
  • Previous pharmacy experience or training in a pharmacy technician program.
  • High school diploma or equivalent related experience.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certificate.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely handle and/or prepare compounds such as chemotherapeutic agents, biologicals, or other medications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, customer service, oral communication, multi-tasking, teamwork, and written communication.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.
  • Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone.
  • Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Training/giving and receiving instructions.
  • Mathematical ability, attention to detail, concentration, and alertness.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
  • Post-high school coursework or training.
