Position Overview

The Senior Specialist - Transit Safety is responsible for leading the formulation, execution, and oversight of extensive safety initiatives, protocols, and standards for Jaunt, encompassing a workforce of 125 operators, mechanics, and administrative personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exemplify Jaunt's core organizational values consistently.
  • Manage safety program documentation and associated tasks.
  • Ensure the creation, execution, and assessment of comprehensive safety programs, policies, and standards.
  • Possess a deep understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations.
  • Employ methodologies for hazard mitigation, risk reduction, and trend analysis.
  • Supervise investigations into accidents and safety-related occurrences.
  • Guarantee the effective execution of Jaunt's Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
  • Act as Jaunt's representative to federal entities, local organizations, and professional associations.
  • Interpret and stay updated on DOT and FTA Drug & Alcohol regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulations, including CFR 655, 219, 382, and DOT CFR Part 40 policies.
  • Oversee Jaunt's Drug & Alcohol program to ensure compliance with federal regulations and internal policies.
  • Provide recommendations to senior management regarding policy modifications.
  • Collaborate with Operations team leaders to ensure equitable supervision of operators, maximizing safety for staff and passengers.
  • Manage the safety event oversight and investigation program at Jaunt.
  • Foster a culture of excellence by establishing clear safety objectives for each division.
  • Obtain and maintain certifications such as DMV CDL Examiner, CPR, and others as necessary.
  • Complete FTA approved Collections Professional Training.
  • Maintain training on reasonable suspicion for drug and alcohol use.
  • Assist with special projects as required.
  • Ensure all training materials align with safety metrics and standards established by Jaunt and federal regulations.
  • This role is classified as Safety Sensitive in accordance with FTA regulations regarding alcohol misuse and prohibited drug use in transit operations.
  • Provide expertise and guidance during emergency situations, including adverse weather conditions.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in safety, training, risk management, and drug & alcohol programs.
  • Strong planning and prioritization skills for multiple projects.
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License within three months.
  • Meet the physical requirements for a Jaunt operator.
  • Stay informed about developments in the field.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Evaluate programs against relevant standards.
  • Plan and conduct staff development initiatives.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and processes.
  • Strong command of English language, including grammar and punctuation.
  • Preferred qualifications include transit experience and certifications in Transit Safety and Security Programs.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is preferred.

Special Requirements:

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug screening and maintaining a driving record that meets Jaunt's insurance criteria. Continued employment is subject to adherence to Jaunt's Substance Abuse Policy, including regular drug and alcohol screenings.
