**Position Overview**
The Ground Emergency Medical Technician (GEMT) plays a crucial role in delivering essential patient care services, either under the guidance of a paramedic or independently. This position emphasizes compassion, respect, and professionalism while ensuring safe transport for patients, medical teams, and equipment.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide direct patient care in a manner that reflects empathy and respect.
- Ensure safe ground ambulance transport for interfacility patients and medical personnel.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals in high-pressure situations.
- Engage in community outreach and educational initiatives to promote health and safety.
- Uphold the mission and values of University of Florida Health, prioritizing safety throughout all transport operations.
**Qualifications**
**Education and Experience Requirements:**
- High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Current EMT-B (or higher) certification in Florida is required.
- Specialty certifications, such as BLS, must be obtained upon hire.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in pre-hospital EMS driving is necessary (volunteer experience may be considered).
- A valid Florida driver's license and completion of a Florida-approved Emergency Vehicle Operations driving course are essential.
- Must be insurable by the hospital's insurance provider.
- Familiarity with communication equipment and navigational terms is preferred.
**Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:**
Employees in this role will frequently operate vehicles for business purposes, defined as using a personal or hospital vehicle at least once daily or averaging over 150 miles per week.
**Licensure/Certification/Registration:**
EMT-Basic (or higher) certification in Florida is required.
**Compensation**
**Minimum Pay Rate:** Hourly: $14.70
**Midpoint Pay Rate:** Hourly: $18.15
