The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) is seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join its team in Detroit, Michigan. This role offers an estimated annual salary of $62,000 - $80,000, depending on experience.

About the Job

As a Child Life Specialist at DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan, you will play a vital role in providing child life services for ambulatory and inpatient children and their families. Your primary responsibility will be to administer programs and provide services that reduce distress, increase adaptive coping, and protect developmental integrity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement therapeutic play programs to help hospitalized and ambulatory patients adjust to the healthcare experience.
  • Assist in preparing and orienting children and families for diagnostic and treatment procedures using developmentally appropriate methods.
  • Provide information, education, and support to patients and families on issues related to hospitalization, illness, medical experiences, and growth and development.
  • Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team through program planning and team meetings.

Our ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Growth and Development, Recreational Therapy, or a related field. Certification as a Child Life Specialist by the Child Life Certification Commission is also required. A minimum of 600 hours of internship experience, including six weeks of training in pediatrics, is preferred.
