Overview:
The Nuclear Medicine Specialist executes diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in alignment with established professional and departmental protocols.

EDUCATION AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT
1. Instructs new and existing staff, students, and/or volunteers through discussion and demonstration.
2. Completes all mandatory training annually and participates in ongoing educational opportunities.
3. Engages in projects and aids in the formulation and execution of procedures and policies.

k. Maintains Licensure as a graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine program.
Current ARRT or NMTCB registration and state license are required.

Experience:
Minimum of one year of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (Clinical rotation during nuclear training is acceptable).

Certification:
Current BCLS certification.

Modality Specific Duties:
1. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of all Nuclear Medicine equipment within the department.
2. Conducts all Nuclear Medicine procedures as assigned, demonstrating anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and utilizing SNM guidelines to obtain accurately positioned Nuclear Medicine images. Gathers patient history and clinical data for correlation with the images.
3. Determines the appropriate radiopharmaceutical to be utilized, consulting with the physician when necessary. Prepares radiopharmaceuticals for use in patient studies and calculates patient dosage.
4. Reviews physician orders, checking for special instructions from the requesting physician, and consults with the radiologist as necessary. Warmly greets patients, confirming their identification and introducing oneself. Thoroughly explains examination procedures to the patient and their family, if present.
5. Conducts visual preventive safety inspections on all equipment, identifying issues and communicating them to the immediate supervisor.
6. Initiates IVs when necessary, as authorized by the physician or supervisor.
7. Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies for the assigned room, rotating stock in an orderly manner and discarding outdated items.
8. Assists in the movement of patients as necessary.
9. Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures, and administers first aid or CPR as needed.
10. Performs any other duties as directed by the supervisor, coordinator, or director.
