As a vital member of the healthcare team, you will be responsible for executing essential patient access and registration functions within the EPIC Practice Management system. Your duties will include answering incoming calls, scheduling appointments, managing referrals, and maintaining provider schedules. You will also verify patient information and insurance details to ensure accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Access and Registration: Manage phone inquiries; Facilitate appointment scheduling; Ensure precise patient registration by confirming demographics and insurance coverage; Oversee check-in and check-out processes; Maintain and update appointment templates; Verify MyGH setups; Engage with patients through various communication channels; Handle both internal and external referrals.
- Account Management: Confirm and establish insurance coverage structures; Secure prior authorizations for services; Address items in patient and claim work queues; Serve as a liaison to Patient Financial Services and the Health Plan; Communicate with external payors and employers as needed; Conduct manual service capture and data entry; Collaborate with Health Information Management for coding inquiries; Prepare accounts for off-site billing of professional services; Provide cost estimates for services; Assist patients with billing inquiries.
- Cash Handling: Collect co-pays and share costs for services rendered; Process refunds; Conduct daily cash reconciliation and reporting for retail transactions; Manage daily till closeout; Prepare necessary bank documentation and reconcile deposits.
- Customer Service Excellence: Uphold Kaiser Permanente's standards for behavior and appearance; Exhibit exceptional customer service and communication skills; Treat all customers with respect and courtesy; Comply with HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality; Act as a guide for patients navigating Kaiser Permanente services.
Experience:
- At least one (1) year of experience in a business office within a healthcare setting, hospital, insurance, or large contact center, or two (2) years of experience in a fast-paced customer service role.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Familiarity with electronic patient accounting, scheduling, or customer information systems.
- Basic proficiency in MS Windows, 10-key, and typing (minimum 35 WPM).
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse clientele.
- Three (3) years of experience in a patient care environment.
- Experience with Epic Cadence/Prelude/Resolute or similar systems.
- Knowledge of Kaiser Permanente billing practices and cash posting systems.
- Understanding of medical terminology and healthcare operations.
- Familiarity with various health insurance practices and billing.
- Ability to establish trust and respect with patients.
- Strong problem-solving skills and initiative.
- Capability to provide guidance and training to staff on procedures.
- Experience in processing diverse billing types.
- Demonstrated adaptability and reliability in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient and team interactions.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
- Training in medical office procedures and billing.
- Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding.
