About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Denials Prevention Coordinator to join our team at Northern Regional Hospital. As a key member of our revenue cycle team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our patients receive the care they need while also maximizing reimbursement for our hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Denials Prevention and Management: Utilize your expertise to identify and prevent denials of inpatient and outpatient services, ensuring that our patients receive the necessary care and that our hospital receives fair reimbursement.
  2. Clinical Documentation Review: Conduct thorough reviews of clinical documentation to establish medical necessity and ensure that our coding and billing practices are accurate and compliant.
  3. Communication and Collaboration: Serve as a liaison between our hospital and external partners, including insurance companies and government agencies, to resolve payment denials and clinical documentation issues.
  4. Analysis and Reporting: Build and analyze management reports to identify patterns and trends, and recommend opportunities for improvement related to coding, billing, and denial prevention.
  5. Expertise and Knowledge: Stay up-to-date on applicable third-party payer changes and government regulatory changes, and apply your knowledge of Interqual and MCG guidelines to claim appeal arguments.
Requirements
  • Education and Credentials: Possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in an acute hospital setting, with a background in registration, billing/coding, or case management, or a minimum of 3 years of experience directly working in revenue cycle activities, collections, and appeals.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Possess a working knowledge of government and non-government payer practice regulation standards and reimbursement, as well as denial/appeal management experience in commercial managed care and government insurances.
  • Certifications: Hold one of the following credentials: RN (Registered Nurse), LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator), RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), CDIP (Certified Documentation Improvement Specialist), or CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist).
